Phoenix Volleyball, part of Phoenix Sports Club, have been crowned national volleyball under-14 and under-16 champions, ending the season with maximum points and no sets conceded in both categories. Phoenix were also runners up in the under-18 category, while the same group of girls, mostly 13-16 year-old’s, also managed third place in the 1st Division.
Commenting on Phoenix’ success this season, Club President Orlando Bonnici said that this was the fruit of three years’ hard work focused primarily on creating a strong nursery: “Phoenix’ philosophy places a strong emphasis on the development of young athletes in all the sports disciplines we participate in. Phoenix Volleyball has served as our prototype for this model, and thanks to head coach Leonard Zammit Munro and his assistant coaches Mirko Placi’ from Italy and experienced player Ritianne Cassar, the results are proving us right, so much so that this year we fielded a team practically made up of 13-16 year-old’s in the 1st Division, achieving a creditable third place. The future looks very bright for Phoenix Volleyball”.
Bonnici ended by thanking Phoenix Volleyball’s main sponsor, Citadel Insurance, for their support. For more information about Phoenix Volleyball and Phoenix Sports Club visit www.psc.com.mt .
