Phoenix Sports Club will be introducing Floorball lessons for the first time in Malta as part of its Phoenix Sports Academy. This sport itself was introduced last year in Malta and the Malta Floorball Association (MFbA) has been set up and will launch its first leagues this year.
Floorball, a type of floor hockey developed by the Swedes in the early 1970s, will be taught at the Phoenix Sports Academy alongside the already established team sports that Phoenix already offers and which includ Basketball, Handball, Volleyball and Table Tennis.
“Phoenix Sports Club started out just five years ago and our family of members is growing fast. There is a lot of enthusiasm from our young athletes and we are constantly pushing to keep sports at the forefront. Slowly but surely, we are seeing society’s perception of sports in our culture change. We have yet a long way to go, but we are very optimistic,” said President Orlando Bonnici.
Boys and girls aged from 5 to 15 interested in being part of a team, developing a new skill and making new friends are encouraged to enroll. All sessions are held at after school hours in central localities in Malta with qualified coaches making sure that sessions delivered are of the highest possible standard.
“We currently have over a hundred boys and girls enrolled in our various nurseries, the majority of whom play Volleyball and Handball. This year, we will launch the nursery of the dynamic indoor sport Floorball, a completely new game which is already gauging a lot of local interest. We have also decided to focus on our Basketball nursery and this year will see Phoenix’s efforts in this sports concentrating on buiding a structured nursery in this sports too” he added.
