Women’s 5-a-side Tournament for Izole Cup 2012

This year’s Izole Cup will feature a unique competition for female soccer players who would like to compete against similar 5-a-side teams. Application and details can be found on the site www.izolecup.com. The tournament will also feature men 5-a-side tournament, mixed basketball (streeball) and volleyball (grassvolley) and also men and women handball competitions. Early bird discounts are available for those who book their spots before the end of June 2012. Phoenix SC Looking for Handball Players

Phoenix SC have recently announced they are looking for players to join their handball teams. Players must not need have any handball experience although some sports background would help. The applications are open for Phoenix SC Handball Nurseries in which boys and girls of al

l ages and all handball experience will be tutored in the game by local and foreign coaches.  These are the positions in which Phoenix SC are looking for players:

Men Handball

Application for Memebers of All Ages and ALL handball abilities

Phoenix SC Aids Puttinu Cares

Phoenix SC have recently participated in a number of fundraising events aimed at helping the Puttinu Cares foundation. Phoenix SC’s members raised a considerable amount of money which was donated to the organisers of these events. It is part of Phoenix’s policy to assist and help people in need as part of its community outreach purpose. The club too part in the Volleyball Marathon as well as in the Handaq Day, both activities aimed at collecting funds for Puttinu Cares. The club highlighted its commitment in backing and assisting other fund-raising social initiatives in the coming months. Phoenix SC Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting for Phoenix SC. During the meeting we will disclose the financial plan for the past year and we will hold also the election of the committee for the next 2 years. We will stay there after the meeting and have few drinks together. The event will be held on  Friday 25th of May at Cock’s Sports Bar in Birzebbugia. All Phoenix members are invited to attend and vote for the new members on our Executive Committee. The Agenda is as follows:

Phoenix Mendoza Secure 2nd Place

Pheonix Mendoza, our senior male handball team, yesterday beat Luxol Handball with the score of 20-17 to mathematically secure the 2nd place of the league in its 2nd year of existence. This dream became a certainty yesterday, where our men fought like lions against a good Luxol side. This fantastic achievement was inconceivable a couple of weeks before the start of the season due to various injuries and transfers that plagued the pre-season of the team. However a series of positive results gave morale and boost to the team who fought back to snatch the 2nd spot.

Needless to say, the club is jubilant and the wave of enthusiasm will be transferred to all the sports and teams in the club. In the coming weeks the club has announced its investment in female handball, basketball and volleyball. The club would like to thanks coach Falko Winkler, all the players. supporters and the families who have all managed to pitch in and achieving this wonderful result.

Handball Coach gives Phoenix International Exposure

One can notice a familiar face on this month’s edition of Handball Magazin, the most popular handball periodic in Germany. Falko Winkler, head coach for our Phoenix Mendoza Handball Men team,  was appraoched by the editors of the magazine following a successful blog that  he keeps updated regularly about his Maltese adventure. In fact the article on HM relates about Falko’s crazy idea to go play abroad and how this is turning out to be a successful story in both his private and sporting life.

The article not only promotes Phoenix SC and its sponsors  but also highlights the progress done by Maltese handball. There is a clear reference on the development of the local handball scene and this will hopefully translate in an increase of German teams and players visiting Malta. In the article, Falko highlights the successful season currently being undertaken by Phoenix Mendoza and all the other Phoenix handball teams and how this will hopefully improve in the coming years.

The club hopes to have a long lasting relationship with Falko as its head coach and has in several occasions highlighted the importance of Falko for the club and the teams. Until future developments, lets hope that this article will hopefully increase Malta’s importance in European Handball and that Falko’s adventure will have a happy ending that we all are dreaming of.

MelitaUnipol supports Phoenix SC Volley

MelitaUnipol Insurance Brokers (http://www.melitaunipol.com) and Phoenix SC have announced an agreement for 3 years through which MelitaUnipol will be the main sponsor for their Seniors Volleyball Team and in turn they will be the official sports insurance brokers for Phoenix SC. One of the Club’s top priority has been achieved as soon players will be covered with a sports insurance protecting them from long term injuries and recovery.  The Seniors Volleyball team will compete in the National Volleyball league as Phoenix MelitaUnipol for the duration of the agreement. A suitable sports insurance package will be also available to other clubs should they request it. For more information kindly contact us on info@psc.com.mt. In the meantime, Phoenix SC have expressed their content about this agreement and they look forward to a long-lasting partnership between the Club and MelitaUnipol.
